As of today, respondents do not share a unified assessment of which side holds the advantage on the battlefield. The survey shows that public perceptions of the current situation remain divided.
Research findings on the frontline situation:
- 30.2% believe the situation on the battlefield is roughly equal for Ukraine and Russia.
- 27.2% see a military advantage for Ukraine.
- 31.2% believe the advantage is currently on Russia’s side.
At the same time, another question in the same study focused not on the current situation, but on the prospects for the final outcome of the war. Here, the picture differs significantly.
- 65.2% of respondents believe a military victory for Ukraine is realistic.
What this means: there is a noticeable gap between assessments of the current battlefield situation and expectations regarding the final outcome of the war. Some citizens critically assess the present balance of power while still maintaining confidence in Ukraine’s strategic victory.
For a society living under wartime conditions, such a structure of public sentiment is natural. At the same time, it is important to maintain a balance between optimism and a realistic understanding of the complexity and long-term nature of the confrontation.
What should be taken into account: government communication about the war should clearly distinguish between assessments of the current situation and long-term prospects, combining support for hope with an honest explanation of the complexity of the process.
