Ukrainian society demonstrates a high level of intolerance toward corruption in politics. This is shown by the results of a new study conducted by the analytical center Think Ukraine.
For most citizens, even a politician’s effectiveness does not outweigh involvement in corruption.
Research findings
- 67.7% would definitely not vote for a politician or political force involved in corruption.
- 17.4% would most likely not support such a candidate.
- Only 2.4% are definitely ready to vote for an “effective” but corrupt politician.
- 8.1% admit they could potentially support such a candidate.
What this means
Public demand for a “strong hand” or an “effective manager at any cost” is gradually weakening. For the majority of Ukrainians, integrity and reputation are becoming fundamental political values.
What should be taken into account
Corruption scandals may now carry much more serious political consequences than before. Ukrainian society is becoming increasingly unwilling to tolerate corruption — even during wartime.
